UPDATE: NAPO VICTORY! H.R. 82 DISCHARGE PETITION HITS NECESSARY 218 SIGNATURES!
In a significant victory for NAPO, the Discharge Petition for H.R. 82 hit 218 signatures and is now closed. Thank you to all of the Members of Congress who signed on and thank you to our members who helped us make this happen.
Next steps: There is now a seven legislative day waiting period after which the bill’s sponsors, Representatives Garret Graves (R-LA) or Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), can call it to the floor for a vote. Speaker Johnson then has two legislative days to schedule the vote. Timing will be everything as the House is currently focused on funding the federal government before time runs out on September 30. Please check back here for updates.

The discharge petition for H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, currently has 216 signatures, just 2 short of the 218 needed to force a vote on this important bill! We have never been this close to moving this bill in either the House or the Senate in the 40 years NAPO has been fighting for its passage. The momentum is ours and we cannot stop now.
Please continue to reach out to your Congressional Representative(s) and request that they put words into action and sign the discharge petition. Thank you in advance for your efforts to make this discharge petition a success!
